Message from the Chairman

It hardly seems any time at all since we ended last year’s off-road season at the end of October! I trust you all had an enjoyable Christmas, my very best wishes for 2012, and I hope you are looking forward to racing with MERCC this year!

Work will shortly be under way to prepare our track at Braxted for the forthcoming season. Last year the track area was increased by 38% and this gave us plenty of flexibility with regard to variety of track design for all scales, Electric and Nitro. The addition of a portable ‘cross-over’ bridge feature also proved a great success. 2011 was a very successful year for MERCC with many ‘new faces’, good attendance, and good weather (no Meeting had to be abandoned or cancelled because of this!).

The club no longer has the AMB Timing System (and 1990’s computer!) which, with the AMB 20 ‘hand-out’ transponders, had given many years of trouble-free service. Instead, we now have a new computer with R-C Timing Programme installed and a new ‘Mylaps’ Decoder, so this will mean that we will now be able to cater for Personal Transponders. Until further notice, the club will no longer be supplying ‘hand-out’ transponders. Any driver without a Personal Transponder will therefore be counted manually.

After track preparation and necessary maintenance has been carried out, we shall be ‘trialling’ our new system at a Members-Only Day in April (TBA). This will be strictly for paid-up MERCC members only (so 2011 members renew your subscription, if you haven’t already done so, if you wish to participate!). Following this, the season will start with the traditional ‘Seasonal Warm-Up’ Open (TBA). The programme for the 2012 season is being formulated, and will be available very soon – watch this space!

If you haven’t yet renewed your BRCA licence, do it now! Remember, you will not be permitted to race without a current licence unless you are an absolute beginner – and then for only a maximum of three Meetings. Please read carefully the ‘Important Information for 2012 Season’ on this site. Also, if you haven’t got a Personal Transponder you are advised to purchase one if you are going to race regularly!

The Club is looking forward to meeting again drivers who raced at Braxted during 2011 and also to welcoming those who haven’t raced with us before. You will all be assured of a friendly welcome at MERCC!
