To say that our racing season was a great success would be an understatement. We were fortunate with the weather, and no Meeting had to be cancelled or abandoned because of adverse weather – now will everybody believe me that Braxted is a much drier area than most?
The practice of allowing any willing volunteers, whether MERCC members or not, to set out the track has worked very well and has resulted in some excellent track designs by consensus.
We have seen many ‘new’ faces (and ‘old’!) this year and have recruited a significant number of new members. It can truthfully be stated that all Meetings have been held in a friendly atmosphere, for which the club has always been well-known. There has been a resurgence in numbers of 1/10th Electric off-road cars and this has been particularly encouraging. The ‘Marshal-Less’ Finals, when we have had time and weather on our side, have proved very popular and have demonstrated what can be achieved when there is nobody to marshal the cars!
I should like to express my personal thanks to my good friend, and Vice-Chairman, ‘Gentleman Jim’ Shepherd, who has worked very hard in helping with the mowing of the track throughout the season and has also assisted me on race days – Jim is an asset to the club. Thanks also to Jaz Jhita for running two of the Meetings while I was away and also to all the other club members who have helped in many ways. Last, but not least, a big ‘Thank You’ to all those who have supported our race meetings this year, without them there would have been no racing.
The final standings for the 2010 Off Road Series are as follows:
I look forward to seeing you all again at Braxted in 2011. 🙂
